22nd November 2006 : Abortive attempts at Selling Out

Filed under: News — kingcurly @ 5:01 pm

Here’s an unusual thing: the opening title sequence to a forthcoming reality-TV show about strippers entitled “Erotic Star”. Mr C did the title sequence and set it to the King Curly track, “Orgy”.I asked him what the show was about, but he was sobbing too much to be coherent (a stripper had just given him a Chinese-burn). Something about strippers on an island fighting each other. I’m sure it will be great.

The above serves as a corrective to those who claim that Mr C is motivated solely by spite, fear and resentment of his social-betters. In doing this title sequence he has been quite clearly motivated by greed as well. Sadly, “Orgy” did not make the final cut, as the producers had already paid for a different track etc etc. but we remain very keen to sell-out – like Swamp Dogg, we think of it as “Buying In” rather than “Selling Out” – but find ourselves thwarted at every turn.

Further sell-out suggestions welcomed.

It may be of interest to readers that having so much enjoyed our songwriting collaboration on “Doomsday Piano”, Mr Creighton and I have decided to take on further improbable projects together including:

A SONG FOR SHANNON NOLL.

I have never written for anyone else before and I am apprehensive as to whether I can – but it has become an irresistable challenge to find out. Since Shannon is the reputedly the only person left in the Australian music industry who is making money he is the obvious target.

But what will he want to sing about?….He looks a bit tired from his touring regime. Is it possible to write with integrity while at the same time attempting to find the commercial market? These questions will be answered soon when Mr Creighton and I present:

A SONG FOR SHANNON NOLL.

9th November 2006 : I Wish I Was a Girl

Technology allows us to see what search-terms people on the internet have entered to draw themselves into the powerful gravitational pull of the King Curly site – as well as their country of origin.

For instance we can see that the Germans and Japanese are at the cutting edge of fashion (as usual) and visit the site in vast numbers. Also, we can see that a disproportionate number arrive via the search terms “I wish I was a girl” – which is, of course, an early King Curly tune. I suspect that some of these are drifting in off the high plains of the sex chatroom world, or through a genuine and plaintive wish to actually be a girl….. but for their benefit it seems like a nice idea to offer them the song right here – to help lighten the load on their lonely wanderings…

Download “I Wish I Was a Girl” MP3.

Other search terms that have led travellers to the King include: “switchblade knife”, “chicken husbandry” “bon scott + backmasking”, “zoe shower head reviews” and “cane toads dressed as characters”.

2nd November 2006 : “Doomsday Piano” photo shoot

Photo by Alex CraigMr Flower is a much nicer fellow than his photo suggests. He plays guitar by trade and while he didn’t play on the Doomsday Piano recordings, he has been a member of the King Curly live team, most notably on the Cat Empire tour at the end of last year.

For those in know, this photograph reveals the thematic inspiration behind the style of the album sleeve as a whole: NSW police photos from the 20′s – ’50s as seen in the “City of Shadows” exhibition. Mr Flower’s pose mimics that of one of the most dubious looking characters in the collection…
